Plant feeds: nettle, comfrey, ash, urine

In short

  • Nettle and comfrey feed: 1 kg of fresh leaves to 10 L of water, 10–14 days; at the roots diluted 1 : 10, for seedlings 1 : 20.
  • Wood ash: no more than 100 g per m² a year (a mugful), only from clean wood; not on potatoes or blueberries. Metal bin with a lid because of embers.
  • Urine: diluted 1 : 3 to 1 : 10, on the soil, never on the leaves, no more than about 1.5 L per m² for the season.
  • Between the last urine feed and harvest: at least 1 month (WHO recommendation).
  • Liquid feeds are a top-up, not a replacement for compost and manure.
