Drip and gravity-fed irrigation

In short

  • A filter is not optional. Without one, drippers clog in the first season.
  • 10 m of height = 1 bar (14.5 psi). A water butt raised 1 m gives only 0.1 bar: it works, but only with short runs and low-pressure tape.
  • Measure the real flow of one dripper (a cup and a clock) before you work out run times.
  • Less often and longer beats a little every day: moisture should reach 20–30 cm (8–12 in).
  • Before the frost, drain the system and store the tape under cover.
