In short
- Prevention first: crop rotation, spacing, healthy soil, dry leaves, resistant varieties.
- Walk the garden every day for 10 minutes and look under the leaves: a problem caught early is dealt with by hand.
- Insect mesh and fleece stop root flies, flea beetles and cabbage whites better than any spray.
- Beneficial insects, birds, hedgehogs and toads eat more pests than you do — don't poison them.
- Home remedies are not harmless: test on a few leaves first, never spray in strong sun or on flowers.
