In short
- Fish don't feed below roughly 10 °C (50 °F). Light feeding from April, full feeding from May to September, and light again in October.
- Daily roughly 1–4 % of fish weight in grain, according to water temperature. What isn't eaten in 2 hours is too much.
- For 1 kg of carp growth roughly 3–4 kg of grain alongside natural food.
- Oxygen is lowest at dawn. Fish gulping air at the surface at first light: fresh water or the aerator at once, and no feed that day.
- Water transparency of 30–60 cm (Secchi disc) is good. Below 25 cm a night-time oxygen shortage threatens.
- Several dead fish, sores, bleeding, fish swimming on their side: call the vet. No antibiotics on your own.
