Honey, wax and propolis

In short

  • Take only ripe honey: at least two-thirds of the frame capped.
  • Supers, not the brood box: the bees keep a brood box full of honey and pollen.
  • Take honey without smoke in the super, with a clearer board or a brush, on a warm day, without spills.
  • Never give honey to babies under 12 months (risk of infant botulism).
  • Store empty frames safe from wax moth: cold, airy, no chemicals.
  • Collect propolis and pollen only from healthy, untreated hives.
