A family food plan for the year

In short

  • A family of 3.1 AE eats roughly 370 kg of vegetables, 250 kg of potatoes, 230 kg of fruit, 680 eggs, 465 L of milk and 108 kg of meat a year.
  • Roughly half the vegetables and fruit pass through the pantry: in winter you eat from the cellar, crock, jars and freezer.
  • The menu has a fixed weekly rhythm: pulses, meat and leftovers, pie, eggs and milk, a vegetable dish; only the season changes.
  • The shopping list is short and familiar: salt, oil, sugar or none, coffee or tea and spices. Everything else is a goal for the homestead.
  • The plan is improved twice a year: in June (stores) and in December (the whole year).
